The final, final step in the editing process!

I usually provide this service for publishers, but individual authors may also find that a final post-proofread review of the text is in order. This pass focuses on identifying egregious errors that will negatively affect the reader’s experience. It is a limited review conducted in conjunction with the copyeditor’s style sheet. Cold read edits are recorded in a spreadsheet that is provided to the author or publisher so that spot corrections can be made by the compositor.

If your book has been through multiple edits and significant revisions during the proofread stage, a cold read can help eliminate minor errors that were overlooked during more intensive editing passes.
